In my daily walks, I have found myself curious about the composition and the imprints of the ground that I walk upon, which is usually a sidewalk. I regularly photograph the sidewalk—observing the life and traces of those who have passed my way, but often at a different time. The accidental shapes of the spills and stains inspired these stream-of-conscious drawings. They are graphite, charcoal drawing and printed ink on paper.
In addition to the Stainboys, there are two animated films in this sidewalk series. Spitopia, a rumination on sidewalk gum, and Still Life with Golden Apple, a looping film centered upon a starling dispute.
This exquisite corpse holiday card was made for New York Foundation for the Arts. Graphite, watercolor and collage on paper.
